CENTENARY CELEBRATIONS

Centenary Celebrations and World Thinking Day 100log10

In 2010 Girlguiding is 100 years old. To celebrate, there are lots of crafts, activities, challenges and parties going on all over the world over the year, ending at 20:10 on 20.10.2010!

The celebrations began in September 2009 and all over the country Rainbows, Brownies and Guides attended launch parties. Ours was in Keswick where Wise Owl and some other girls enjoyed the celebrations and organised activities.

This year has been special for us. Three new leaders have joined our unit which means we have been able to increase our numbers. Our numbers have doubled since September 2009 and we have a waiting list of girls wishing to join.

To celebrate the Centenary we have enjoyed many new activities as we’ve all been working towards our Adventure-100 Badge. We have been to the Croft and Walby Farm this year and we have a trip to Newlanark in June and an Adventure Weekend planned for our Brownies in August. We are grateful for grants received from Francis C Scott and Longtown Neighbourhood Forum to help reduce the costs of these trips for parents.

We have also been able to buy much needed craft materials with the help of Cumberland Building Society and with grateful thanks to Cumbria Community Foundation, our leaders are buying computers which have enabled us to have our own Web Site where we can develop our computer skills and learn about the internet in a safe environment.

Our Leaders have many exciting things planned for the weeks ahead and on the 20 October we will be concluding our Centenary Celebrations with other GirlGuiding Units from Border Division.

WORLD THINKING DAY 2010

The 22nd February is World Thinking Day when all Rainbows, Brownies and Guides think about others around the world.

This year is special for Girlguiding because it is our Centenary year. Our Division held a Thinking Day event at Walby Farm Park. We had fun here, seeing all the animals and we had a talk on Owls, fun indoors and we enjoyed meeting Brownies from other units in our Division.
